Zybek Sports graciously donated 4 PowerBlaster machines and all timing equipment for the 5 indoor speed and agility tests during the 5 day camp. The camps consisted of not only Coaches Mullaney & Robison but also QBA quarterbacks; Jerry Slota, Alex Fricke and Austin Ihm as well as ProspectFit member Trent Butler that each had a team of players from across the country to guide and lead throughout their journey. As exhausted and beat as they were there was an overwhelming response from the players by the end of the camp, surprisingly they didn’t want to leave. “My son does not want to leave. He wants to stay here and workout all year long. I’ve never seen him so motivated and so touched by anything in my life” stated one mom when picking up her son.

ProspectFit plans to host multiple boot-camps each year going forward. Keep an eye out for the next boot-camp at www.ProspectFit.com.

Harrison continued his playing career on a full scholarship at Penn State University as Center, Guard and Tackle under the guidance of college football’s most winning coach, Joe Paterno. During this time he played for the 2005 Big Ten Championship team and participated in the Fed-Ex Orange Bowl game. Greg is now excited to be teaming up with the NFA family using his passion, skills and experience to help high school players across the country achieve the same great success he encountered. The National Football Academy is excited to have Greg as part of their team as they move into the 2010-2011 season.

BOWLING GREEN, KY

Jeff Witthuhn of Greenwood High School has spent his off seasons working on perfecting his skills and working with the National Football Academies to do so. He has taken to heart the skills they have taught him and they are clearly paying off. The Gators started off the season with a 4-0 record setting a first ever school record. Even the rain and mud couldn’t stop QB Witthuhn as he had 199 rushing yards, more than the entire offense of their opponent.

Witthuhn, a junior, has commanded his offense this year with 21 for 33 with 354 yards, 8 passing TDs and only 2 picks in the first 4 games. Not only has he shown great presence in his passing game, he has also become a dual threat on the ground by running for 333 yards in 31 carries and 2 TD’s.

The NFA/QBA camps have really helped Witthuhn maximize his potential, “your camps have really taught me the things I need to know to be the best QB I can be” says Jeff. Witthuhn will have all next offseason to continue to master his skills.

“See you next summer!”

NFA and the Quarterback Academy wishes Jeff the best of luck throughout the remaining season.

RENTON, WA

Trey Wheeler is entering his senior year at Liberty High School, a consistent competitor of the upper tier of the 3A division along with a 2nd place finish in the State Championship in 2009. As Trey enters his last year of high school football he definitely has his sights set on that title for 2010. Liberty will begin their season on September 3rd facing the reigning 4A State Champions, Bellevue High School.

In his off-season Trey has spent his time at many camps, clinics and tournaments including QBA camps and competing in the Washington All-Star 7v7 Tournament perfecting his skills to help him reach that title game in 2010 and to help him solidify an offer from an NCAA school. He seems to be headed in the right direction as earlier this summer Wheeler received his first offer, Wyoming. Trey has not yet accepted his offer until he has a chance to visit the school and potentially see what else comes his way but one thing is for sure, his hard work and dedication to the game has paid off.

Coach and Director or Operations for QBA, JC Boice has had the privileged of working with Trey and is sure wherever he ends up that they will get a great quarterback. “Trey is just flat out one of the most focused kids I know and his preparation reflects in his game. He is just always a gamer when it really counts”, says Boice.

Not only has Trey been participating in the QBA camps since the 7th grade, he is also one of the original athletes to join in the ProspectFIT program that specializes in training and development of upper echelon high school players to get to the next level. Coach Boice on Wheeler’s progress:

“Trey really represents the growth in our company. Even at the early age he was very driven to become a great football player and we realized we needed to provide a complete development track for taking a young athlete like Trey and advance them to assist in achieving their goals.”

Along with many others, Trey’s accomplishments have proven the program highly successful.

“Trey is one of the first of many QBs coming through our development system that are not only great QB’s but great young men.”

And on September 3rd when the 2010 season begins for this Senior, those remaining schools that still have Wheeler on their recruiting boards will get to see just how great he can be. QBA congratulates Trey on his first offer from Wyoming and of all there is to come for him.

What is the Eyeball Test?

So many athletes don’t get the importance of passing the “eyeball”
test from collegiate coaches. If you don’t look the part they do not
believe you can play the part. So what is the look?
First you have
to be in shape and look like the position you are going to play. You
have to work the workouts and get yourself ready to play a collegiate
sport. Almost no one makes it on natural ability in todays collegiate
programs. If you are an athlete that isn’t putting the time in in the
gym, weight room and on the track…you won’t pass the test.
Last,
this period is an evaluation period for all aspects of who you are as a
student athlete. That means that the coaches are going to check your
grades. If your grades are falling then you are falling out of
collegiate contention. Previously, Colorado State University Head
Football Coach Steve Fairchild boasted that only two of his 22 signees
had under a 3.0 Core GPA and that 9 of his signees had 3.6 or better on a
scale of 4.0. He was praised by the university for his choices in
student athletes.
Where are you as it relates to physical and
academic impressions to coaches this spring? You better get on it if
you aren’t already. Congratulations to those who are cranking. You
will be the ones that win the prize!

ProspectFIT will get you on the TRAK and provide the development necessary to reaching your high school and collegiate goals.

Players who qualify have an unparalleled opportunity
to develop their skills toward the standards that college coaches
recruit for. And a seamless transition into the college recruiting
process, all in one program.

- ProspecFIT is geared
toward finding “The Fit” for your college career, and setting yourself
up for success in the college recruiting process. It’s your road map to
the next level. And the time to commit to your college career is right
now.

PART 2

So my dream world is quickly over. We had one of the most hardcore weeks I have ever experienced, I think every coaches goal was to get the stragglers to quit. Navy Seal drills for 8 hours on the beach!!! It was the hardest conditioning I have ever done. The good news is that we are finally getting into the offensive playbook.
We been having player organized workouts for throwing, as well as meetings with my QB coach and all the other quarterbacks. Meetings so far have covered basics of the offense, formations, huddle set up and all the other little things you take for granted. We’ve also been having a lot of team meetings on how to conduct ourselves in public and the media. Apparently there are a lot of people that want to take advantage of football players…lol.
Football players have mostly been the only people on campus for the first couple of weeks of August until now!! Starting to get more people on campus, kind of makes it a little more exciting here. Finally get to interact with some other people, not that I don’t want to hang out other football players. Pads are going on soon, by the time you read this we will be in full swing with two a days. …Passio Bellator

Leon Blouin IV (left), Dutchtown Quarterback is one of the most talented duel threat Quarterbacks in the country. His accuracy sets him apart from the competition.
The Quarterback Academy (QBA), which provides quarterback training and qb camps to aspiring athletes, closed out the 2010 off-season camp tour with one of the strongest Quarterback competitions in the country, “The Duel of the Dozens”. “We’re really excited to get this competition in the books for 2010, we had 120 quarterbacks at the skills camp and 60 compete in the competition.” says Will Hewlett, Director of Player Development and Camp Director. “The competition had representation from Oklahoma, Virginia, Texas, New York and Nebraska to name a few states, as well as a strong representation from local Florida Quarterbacks.”

For the 11th and 12th grade division, Sawyer Kollmorgan, Jenks Trojan Quarterback from Oklahoma, delivered an outstanding performance taking home the top QB award for the entire event. Colton Schulenberg from Illinois came in second place followed by local star Tony Diviney from Tampa, Florida. “As a Quarterback Coach, it was fun to watch all the upper classman rise to the occasion and pull away from the rest of the competitors. They all put their game faces on and took care of business.”

Rounding out the top performers and considered an underdog by most, Edward Plitt from Eastport South Manor high school in New York came down to Orlando and brought his “A Game”. Plitt, going into his final year, proved why he’ll make a name for himself in 2010 by scoring a perfect 10 on the coverage recognition drill. “We’ve seen Eddie Plitt improve dramatically over the past 3 years. His hard work has paid off and you can see that from the results of the competition. We have structured the Duel to represent game like situations as much as possible in order to make sure the most well rounded quarterbacks do well. Plitt displays many skill sets as a QB, which allowed him to compete at a very high level. We look forward to following him in 2010” says Coach Hewlett.
With a first look at Plitt, he doesn’t necessarily fit your standard pro-style quarterback frame. He’s not 6‘5” so he won’t stand out at first. However, pay close attention and he shows you why he is among the best Quarterbacks. Fluid mechanics and smart decisions separate Eddie from most other QB’s. “He’s not going to blow you away by throwing the ball 80 yards down the field, but he will catch you off guard and make sure that defenses pay for their mistakes” stated one of the QBA certified coaches.

The Quarterback Academy, a 21 year old national company, formally DSQA is the premier quarterback mechanics training program in the industry today and is currently seeking to develop new certified coaches throughout the United States and Canada. If you would like more information about joining this highly trained team that includes greats like Joe Germaine, former Ohio State QB, and Heisman Trophy winner, Charlie Ward; please visit the website at: http://www.quarterbackacademy and tell them about your interest.

Why does my son need to gain weight?

This is question we get asked frequently from many parents. When we suggest weight gain, we are referring to gaining lean muscle mass. Traditionally parents have viewed the Quarterback position stature more like a baseball player would be.

The reality for the quarterback position is that there is more demand than ever to run the football and extend plays with their feet. The “spread offense” with the Zone Read, is giving shorter quarterbacks more options after high school, thus creating more options in high school.

Coaches want quarterbacks that can take and deliver a hit. A 165lb senior Quarterback can not do or sustain this effectively and will get eliminated in the recruiting process.

SMASH Concept:
The Smash
Route is one of the more popular concepts to attack cover 2. The outside receiver
runs a basic hitch route to a depth of 7 yards. The WR will react to the flat
defender. His reaction is determined by what the flat defender does. If the Flat defender sits he will mirror him
by sitting or drifting with the flat defender if he drifts.

The inside receiver runs a flag or corner route. Against 2 high safety look,
the slot WR will break his route at approx 10 yards. Some coaches will have the
slot WR make a post stem prior to the corner break.
Back side
slot will run vertical with slight post stem route to hold the safety. Backside
WR will run a dig route at 10-12 yards.
The QB
progression in COV 2 is Corner Route then hitch. The read is based on the
leverage of the cornerback and play side safety. If the cornerback sits, throw
the Corner Route. Cornerback gets depth (unlikely in cover 2) throw the Hitch.

Who says you have to listen to your critics? Well Kyle Miller of St. Francis High School certainly didn’t when all through his years of football he was told he would never play as a quarterback in Division 1 due to his height. Miller stands just 6’0” and 200 lbs and on his way to play QB for the University of San Diego Toreros this fall.

As Captain and starting QB of the Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Game in the Silicon Valley this past month, Miller carries with him an impressive resume as he prepares for his next challenge. Breaking school records of passing yards with 2,156, a 41 year old record; surpassing the touchdown record by 8 with 25 TD’s, Kyle also had 6 rushing TD’s, only 7 interceptions in 196 attempts and maintains a 61.7% completion percentage which is also a new school record. He has been honored as the Daily News Offensive Player of the Year, WCAL Quarterback of the Year and Under Armour Bay Area All-Star just to name a few and this is just his Senior Year accomplishments.

Needless to say Kyle Miller has proven his critics wrong that 6 foot isn’t tall enough to be a successful quarterback. Kyle has been training with the QBA team since he was in the 8th grade with the statistics and awards not being the only thing that he took from those experiences.

He became a man.

“One of the best things I liked was not only the fundamental part of it, but the actual message about leadership and becoming a man”, says Miller about his participation at the camps.

Kyle has been to numerous camps, combines and competitions over his years, 17 just his Junior & Senior years. “I feel like that is something they offer that no other camp does” Miller added. Kyle believes that QBA had a large part in helping him attain so many of his accolades by not only perfecting his skills but teaching him to prepare mentally.

These skills allowed him to be a great leader on and off the field, “the camps gave me an advantage, making me want to work harder than I ever had before because I finally realized it was not about me, and now I live by that motto”.

This summer Kyle Miller got the opportunity to join the QBA team as a college mentor, and help guide the next generation of quarterbacks to be prepared for greatness. Feeling like he became a better quarterback himself in this process this will give him a true advantage on his voyage to the college game. The coaching staff with QBA couldn’t agree more.

Coach and Director of Player Development, Will Hewlett commented on what Kyle brought to the camps and on his future, “he showed that he is going to be a gifted coach, communicating well with all age groups and parents. He has an advanced understanding of the mechanics as well as a special ability to correct all aspects of the QB game”.

Miller started the University of San Diego training camp August 1st and he will be joined by one of his favorite targets on the field, Chris Barrett tight-end who also played at St. Francis. This combined with USD also using a west coast offense as he did in high school and the knowledge that QBA provided him, Kyle and his coaches are confident he has all the tools he needs to be great.

“I know he is a more confident quarterback going into this season because of the experience of coaching and being around coaches”, stated Coach Hewlett.

Kyle has a very bright future as he plans to continue mentoring with QBA in between college seasons, passing along the life lessons to the next generation to always prepare themselves for greatness.

At the only full contact camp in the nation, Sloan Drummonds Jr. was just awarded the MVP Quarterback Award. This is a great honor to win in the setting of his peers at the age of 13, but Sloan Jr. took it above and beyond that honor and won the MVP award while playing for the seniors group.

The rising 8th grader didn’t stop there; he also won the superbowl game held the last day of camp throwing 3 touch downs including the final pass with seconds left on the clock to win it for the East. Playing against All Americans that are rising Juniors and Seniors from across the nation, never in the 42 year history of the camp has a 13 year old ever accomplished so much.

On New Year’s Day 2010, Drummonds Jr. will compete in the Offensive-Defensive All American Bowl held in Myrtle Beach, S.C. where he will play for the East Team which is to be aired on Fox Sports Network. When Sloan Drummonds Sr. was approached by the camp director about where his son had received training, Drummonds Sr. informed that his son “is a pupil of the QBA Quarterback Academy by Darin Slack”.

Even though Sloan Sr. had received a full football scholarship and played linebacker at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; he knew that he couldn’t teach Sloan Jr. anymore about the QB position past the age of 10.

When asked about when he knew his son was special Sloan Sr. says “I knew he was special when he launched a football at a competition 45 yards, at the age of 10!” It was then that he realized he needed to take him to the next level. After much research, he heard about Darin Slack’s work in Orlando, Fl. Sloan Jr. attended his first DSQA Camp over two years ago. After leaving that camp his dad states “Sloan Jr. came away from that camp with more knowledge of the QB position than I could teach him since he was 4 years old”.

As any father would be, Sloan Sr. is extremely proud of his son’s accomplishments. He is also thankful for the “life giving skills” that Coach Slack has provided his son during these camps. “Sloan Jr. has excelled in his classes and is maintaining his honor roll status”.

“My hat is off to Coach Slack and his staff”, said Sloan Drummonds Sr.
