Elkhart Memorial Charger Football Sophomore Quarterback, Blake Kramer, a five year QBA/NFA quarterback, played his first high school varsity game on Friday, August 19, 2011, against cross town rival Elkhart Central. Blake entered the game late in the second quarter, to give the senior QB a rest. The game was deadlocked at 7-7, with just 2:19 left in the half, the ball was placed on his own 10 yard line, after a punt by Elkhart Central. Blake tried a couple of long passes, but the balls were thrown incomplete. On 3rd and 10, Blake was under pressure, threw a ball complete, but short of the first down. There was a roughing the passer call on Central that gave Memorial an automatic 1st down. Blake threw a couple passes for completions and ran a few running plays to maneuver the ball down to the 24 yard line, with just 22 seconds to go. Blake hikes the ball with 17 seconds on the clock and threw a beautiful pass between two defenders for a two-handed grab by WRA/NFA Receiver, Urston Smith, for a touchdown, with just 7 seconds left on the clock, to take the lead for the first time, and shift the momentum to the Memorial Chargers, as they roll on for a 26-14 victory over Elkhart Central Blue Blazers. Blake and Urston’s pass was aired on every local station that night and was named “Highlight of the Night” by local television station, Fox 28. Blake and Urston are now invited to the College Football Hall of Fame, at the end of the year, as “Highlight of the Year” will be chosen. Blake’s pass is now part of the opening credits for the Friday night high school football scores and highlights. Not bad for a first high school varsity series. Congrats Blake!!! Check out the pass on You Tube @:

You’re in High School now and you are starting to wonder how can I get there? Getting recruited is not easy. There are 1,000’s of “SO CALLED RECRUITING SERVICES” that claim that if you sign up, we will get you a scholarship. Well how are they going to do that?

Everyday 1,000’s of High School Football Players receive a letter from a University. What does that mean? Does it mean they are all being recruited by those schools? No! Colleges will send out 1,000’s of form letters to players that have been entered into their database. 95% of them will never receive a scholarship offer. But, it is still a good thing to receive these letters. It means someone somewhere gave your information to that school.College recruiting is like a funnel.

FORM LETTERS from the Colleges.

HANDWRITTEN Letters from the Coaches.

PHONE CALLS from the Coaches.

Coaches visit you at School and at your House

Coaches bring you to their School on a OFFICIAL VISIT

You receive a Written SCHOLARSHIP OFFER!

The form letter just means they have received information on you. Handwritten letters mean they have an interest in you. THEY HAVE NOT OFFERED you yet, but have an interest and will evaluate you further. When a Coach starts calling you they feel you are a recruit for that school. They have seen on film you have the ability to play at that level. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THEY HAVE OFFERED YOU YET! When they visit you at school, they are making sure all their information is correct. They are trying to learn what kind of person you are. They are getting academic information on you and good recruiters will do spy work. They will talk to your teachers, counselors, coaches and maybe even other students. They want to know what kind of student and person you are. A scholarship is a huge investment by the college and they want to know what they are getting for their investment. They will visit your house to talk to you and your family. They are trying to build a strong relationship with you. A good recruiter should almost become a family friend to you and your family. They do this so that when it is time to offer you it is very hard for you to say no. Who wants to say no to a great family friend? Next if you get to the official visit stage, they are pretty sure they want to offer you a scholarship. They will be evaluating you on the visit. They may verbally offer you on the visit. If they do not, it means you have a few people higher on their list at your position but they still like you. Finally, when they offer you in writing a scholarship, you know you have reached your goal. How can you get help getting into this funnel and navigating these confusing waters of college recruiting? PROSPECT-FIT! They will get you to pass the eyeball test when the coach comes to see you. They will help you increase your performance on the field and they can help get your name into the funnel! CALL PROSPECT FIT TODAY! Tell Them Coach Siegal Sent you.

Blake Phillips, a rising freshman at Kentucky Day School has attended camps for several years – 14 camps to date. Two trips to camps in Orlando have been favorites. This past December he traveled to Denver to be a part of the ProspectFit Boot Camp. He had a great time at this challenging event and was inspired to work even harder. His dedication and hard work paid off this spring in a record-breaking season in the Louisville Middle School 7 on 7 league. Twenty-four teams participated. Blake threw for a record 48 touchdowns with only 2 interceptions. This impressive performance resulted in an undefeated season and the city championship. Even with his individual success Blake is quick to give credit to his receivers and coaches.

Blake also gives QBA and Coach Darin Slack a lot of credit for his success. But obviously he puts in an enormous amount of time and effort. He follows a strenuous workout regimen. His 6000 calorie a day diet is supervised by the staff at ProspectFit. At 6’0″ tall he weighs in over 175 pounds. This summer he will be throwing and lifting – working hard to be ready for the season.

It is his goal to succeed at the next level. He wants nothing more than to help his team in any way that he can. Blake is no longer one of the smaller and younger quarterbacks like when he started. He has grown not only in size but in knowledge and skill, well on his way and an example for others to follow.

As the summer heats up. Players will get tired, frustrated and cranky. Remember that your work ethic and reputation are every important. Your name is what is the most important thing in a coaches eyes. This poem say’s it best:

” You got it from your father,
it was the best he had to give,
and right gladly he bestowed it
It’s yours, the while you live.
You may lose the watch he gave you
                                                                                                  and another you may claim.
                                                                                                  but remember, when you’re tempted,
and a worthy name to bear,
when he took it from his father
there was no dishonor there.
Through the years he proudly wore it,
to his father he was true,
and that name was clean and spotless
when he passed it on to you.
Oh there’s much that he has given
that he values not at all.
He has watched you break your playthings
You have lost the knife he gave you
and you’ve scattered many a game,
yours to wear the while you live.
                                                                                                    Yours, perhaps some distant morn,
with a smile that all can share.
If a clean name and a good name,

you are giving him to wear.”

We want to introduce you to William Finch from Ontario, Canada. He is a true “Warrior”. He trains 5 days a week in the weight room for 90 minutes. He does speed work 4-5 times a week. He maintains over a 3.2 GPA. He is MVP of his High School Football Team in the fall. In summer he plays for an All-Star Team and is their MVP. Since Christmas he has been to 5 Combines in Canada and 4 or 5 in the US. He has been in almost every QB Competition there is. His All-Star team starts in May and ends early in August. He takes a week off and his High School team starts practice. During all this he still trains.

Will’s dream is to play in the US. So, while you’re at home eating ice cream and playing Video Games, William is working. He is chasing his dream. He attends QBA religiously. He follows the ProspectFit Coaches advice.

He has already drawn interest from schools like Baylor, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky, Eastern Michigan and Florida Atlantic. This list will get bigger as the summer comes to an end. He attends camps all over. He is dedicated to fulfill his dream. ProspectFit and the Get 2-0 Blog wants to congratulate William for his dedication and cheer him on as he chases his goal!

William knows how to GET -2-0!!!

Orlando, FL – Rising Sophomore, Colby Brown might have been one of the youngest quarterbacks at the recent Nike Elite 11 Camp in Orlando but he proved he was also one of the most accurate. Brown plays for the nearby Olympia High School in Orlando and even started the last three games for the playoff bound varsity team last year as a freshman.

Brown took full advantage of his opportunity at the Elite 11 finishing in the top 5 of the 55 total quarterbacks and made it to the accuracy challenge competition held at the end of the camp. Brown felt being one of the youngest out there might have actually been a small advantage.

“Being the youngest QB takes away some pressure, which is good, but I still expect to go out there and do better than anyone else. When asked how he rated his performance, Brown said, “I feel like I did pretty well and God really blessed me but I started off pretty slow in the final round.”

Brown has been working with QBA for the last three years, attending 4 camps, has worked privately with Master Certified Coach Will Hewlett and is in the ProspectFit program. “Their throwing mechanics are the best. There is no way I could have done as well as I did without them and without the help of Coach Gulla at Olympia who is a big believer in Coach Slack and QBA” said Brown.

The future is bright for the young quarterback. Several weeks ago, Brown received his first letter from an interested school. Not just any school, mind you. Brown’s first letter came from Notre Dame.

“It was really exciting,” Brown said. “I just didn’t know what to do, I was like ‘wow.’ It just came out of nowhere, so it was really exciting.”

There is no reason to think that many more letters won’t come for Brown. When asked to sum up his experience with Elite 11, NFA and QBA and football in general, all Brown wanted to say was, “God blessed me.”

Zybek Sports graciously donated 4 PowerBlaster machines and all timing equipment for the 5 indoor speed and agility tests during the 5 day camp. The camps consisted of not only Coaches Mullaney & Robison but also QBA quarterbacks; Jerry Slota, Alex Fricke and Austin Ihm as well as ProspectFit member Trent Butler that each had a team of players from across the country to guide and lead throughout their journey. As exhausted and beat as they were there was an overwhelming response from the players by the end of the camp, surprisingly they didn’t want to leave. “My son does not want to leave. He wants to stay here and workout all year long. I’ve never seen him so motivated and so touched by anything in my life” stated one mom when picking up her son.

ProspectFit plans to host multiple boot-camps each year going forward. Keep an eye out for the next boot-camp at www.ProspectFit.com.

A turning point, so to speak.

Tom is a sophomore who started at quarterback at Ponderosa High School, a 5A program in Parker, Colorado. Tom set out this year to prove that he has what it takes to be a legitimate high school starter and a solid collegiate prospect. He did just that last season starting every game for the Mustangs in 2009. So what is the big deal? Today is his last day at the school. For a high school sophomore, that is a very big deal.

Tom’s father Jim owns a second home in the Phoenix, Arizona area which is about to become the family’s first home. The house in Franktown, CO will go up for sale soon after the Thornton’s move out and head to Arizona. Almost everyone can understand that in this economy a lot of shrewd business people like Mr. Thornton are downsizing, consolidating, and cutting back expenses to keep their heads above water. Jim had sold several cars he had collected during more prosperous times as a safety measure for what looks to be a longer ride in this economy than was projected.

When asked about his perspectives regarding the change, Jim said, “Obviously moving is a big decision for our family. We discussed it, prayed about it and did what we thought was best for everyone, no matter how hard it is. Sometimes you only have one shot at hitting the goal, we understand the risks and the possible upside. If Tom keeps doing was he’s doing, we’ve got faith that it will work out well for our family.”

It is time to move on for the Thornton’s and tomorrow they hit the road, Tom Thornton in tow.

Thornton is headed to Marcos de Niza High School in Tempe, Arizona and will compete for the QB job for the Padres who made it to the Arizona state football championships last season. Their quarterback graduates this May creating a competitive opportunity in the Padres roster. A seemingly nice coincidence. But Jim Thornton knew that changes were needed and opportunities were available. The family was moving and the time came to look for a new school at which the young QB could flourish in “Mind, Body and Spirit”. Marcos de Niza was the choice.

About six weeks ago Tom Thornton told his football coach at “Pondo”, Randy Huff, that he was moving to Arizona. Coach Huff had to have felt a hole in his stomach as his football team has had its challenges over the last few years. His Mustang football team has been stuck in mediocrity from a 2003 state championship and continuous state playoff berths to now an average program with many questions. From a coaches perspective, Thornton was a bright spot, one of the best rated QB’s in the state. He was a ticket out of the hole that his team has slipped into. An interesting note; Tom’s dad Jim was his quarterback coach at Ponderosa. He resigned to move on as well. So Coach Huff had to swallow double hard when the “Thornton’s” quit Ponderosa High School altogether.

Tom Thornton is, if you pardon the dirty word around school administrators, a “transfer”. And now the voices bellow through the rumor mill.

“It’s a football move.”

“No, dad has to move so Tom has to go.”

“They are running from Pondo just to play football at a better football program.”

“I hear he is going to a better school.”

“Dad has to sell the house and Tommy has to go with the family.”

“I think it is b…s…t.”

“If it were my son, I’d do the same thing.”

“Disloyal creeps.”

“I wish them well.”

“Pondo is sunk without Tommy.”

“Pondo is better off without them.”

Tom Thornton has heard them all over the last several weeks. He has one strength coach who has tried to make his life in the school as hard as possible. He has other coaches who hug him as he walks the weight room and the hallways. Coach Huff has been supportive and friendly. In the Colorado High School Activities Association Policy Manual this is what would be called a “bona fide move”. Teammates have mixed feelings. The fact is that none of it matters much. As of today, Tom Thornton will transition from a Mustang to a Padre.

The transfer for Tom is simple. “It is time to move on. Marcos de Niza is a place where I can prepare to play at the next level…get a great education and be with my family.” What about the folks at Pondo? “It is hard to leave friends, step out of the comfort zone and move from home. It is what it is and I’m ready for the change and the challenge.”

Tom Thornton is all business right now…going to school, studying and working his tail off in the weight room and on the track. He has gone from a season ending weight in the high 170′s to 199 lbs. in just a few months. His speed and strength have increased substantially. Simply put, Tom Thornton is well into his collegiate development. In football terms, another ten pounds of muscle mass and Tom Thornton will be “a stud”. Tom has taken full advantage of the ProspecTRAK developmental program and he is walking through the door as a ProspectFIT collegiate recruit.

Is this transfer a football move? Is this transfer academic? Is it a family necessity? The answer is “yes”! In a time where transfers go under extreme scrutiny by the state high school athletic associations, Tom Thornton and his family will be under the microscope. They will be labeled and some opposing team(s) will cry “foul” if Tom does the damage he is perfectly capable of inflicting on his opponents. He will have to do the fire walk through the gauntlet that has been laid down for a transfer these days which, to this reporter, is a complete violation of the supposed purpose of educators. That purpose…to do what is best for the student-athlete. In the world of high school athletics the rules to protect the football coach and the school go well beyond the best interest of the athlete and the rights of the family to choose what is best for their son or daughter.

In the meantime, Tom Thornton is a strong young man in every aspect of his student athleticism. He will be just fine.
